7 Data to Models
The primary goal of the automatic, real-time data collection on fishing vessels, paired with an interactive dashboard, is to provide vessel owners with high-resolution insights into their economic performance. However, the benefits extend beyond this. The continuous flow of data opens up opportunities to develop predictive models that support the transition to more sustainable fisheries. Within the Iliad project, two operational models have already been developed. The emphasis on “operational” highlights the intention to integrate these models’ outputs into decision-support tools, enabling informed and actionable decisions.
The development of each model will be discussed in separate sections and the model deployment will be shown in the last section.
In the Fishing Suitability Model, you’ll learn how to develop a model that predicts the most suitable areas for fishing specific target species.
In the Ship Routing Model, you’ll discover how to use fuel consumption data to calibrate a model that simulates optimal shipping routes, maximizing fuel efficiency.
